HILL COTTAGE HAHNDORF, ADELAIDE HILLS ACCOMMODATION – THE HISTORY
Hill Cottage is an Adelaide Hills accommodation that was the original residence on the one acre site of 46 Pain Road or, under its previous identity, “Lot 9, Pain Road.” The exact date of its first construction is uncertain but it was superseded as the residence when the main house was built in 1992.
Current owners Andy and Mandy Frish bought the site in February 2003 and this Adelaide Hills accommodation was used simply for storage and progressively fell into disrepair. The decision to renovate was taken and turned into a complete reconstruction, so the Hill Cottage you see today is a brand new facility throughout, although the size is identical to its predecessor and the internal layout is very similar though with numerous improvements. Those upgrades have included making Hill Cottage “disability friendly” with ease of access and extra wide doors all through, which in fact benefits all residents of course. From our perspective, it has been extremely gratifying to start with a vision of what we wanted and to have it turn out exactly as we had foreseen. For that, we owe a debt of gratitude to builder Dale Liebelt and his team, all of whom did an excellent high-quality job.
The name Hill Cottage Hahndorf is its true identity and, throughout the construction process, we have deliberately tried to retain a cosy, “cottagey” type of look and atmosphere both inside and out while maintaining practicality. We have also quite deliberately “mixed the old with the new”. The main dining table and all the beds are actually made from timber that came from the original Cottage, a pleasing mixture of Oregon, Jarrah and Stringy Bark. Some of the antique furniture featured is local while the wardrobes have come all the way from Suffolk in England.
We hope that all this, together with the seclusion and yet easy accessibility of Hill Cottage to all that Hahndorf and the Adelaide Hills have to offer, will combine to provide a truly enjoyable experience for you our valued guests.
